Toe-biters R Us

The thought of encountering a 15cm long, carnivorous, flying water bug that has a venomous, burning bite, can throttle a snake and is known as a “toe-biter” makes me slightly edgy.

The prospect of running into a swarm of these not-so-little blighters scares the crap out of me.

Fortunately there aren’t many of them to be found in the lochs and rivers of these islands. Which is just as well, really, as the local freshwater piscine population probably wouldn’t stand a chance.
