I’m not a follower of tv soaps but a BBC article caught my eye this evening. Apparently Coronation Street character Ken Barlow has caused a stir by raising questions about christianity in an episode aired on Easter Sunday.
Kudos to the programme makers for having a character come out and raise questions about the validity and truth of religious views and for pointing out that there is an alternative viewpoint which makes more sense. And brownie points for ITV too for letting the programme be aired when it was.
To all those that thought it was inappropriate for such remarks to be made on Easter Sunday you probably don’t want to hear that Easter is derived from a pagan celebration which marks the “rebirth” of life through the arrival of Spring rather than the death and resurrection of any actual being.
