A couple of correspondents over at The Guardian get torn into the wbankers too:
- Simon Hoggart’s Sketch: We’re sorry say bankers. Well sort of.
- Bankers apologise – then RBS announces sweeping cuts.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of today’s Treasury select committee.
The last word in that second article was left to Frank Field MP, a Labour back-bencher:
What the government also has not realised is that failure to act decisively here will see the anger of voters against bankers being transferred to politicians.
This anger is likely to be such that the only way that Labour MPs will be able to go out in public will be in heavy disguise – such will be the public ridicule.
I suspect that the beginning of the end for Gordon Brown and Labour is now a distant speck in the rear-view-mirror.
