Speaking In Tongues

Via Richard Dawkin’s site I read this Guardian article after seeing the following video on Pharyngula a few days ago:

And people ask me why I am so opposed to religion?

How can you accept any religion whose leaders make such stupid, ill-informed, xenophobic remarks? Do these crusty old molluscs really believe that Hurricane Katrina was a punishment from god? That Harry Potter promotes satanism? That the 2004 tsunami was god showing his disapproval of rich tourists visiting poverty stricken Thailand?

How can anyone take the catholic version of religion seriously when a leader of that church says:

I believe that the historical evidence, the historical evidence is strongly against, is hugely against, 6 million Jews having been deliberately gassed in gas chambers as a deliberate policy of Adolf Hitler.

What kind of gibbering fool could really believe that? Apart from Bishop Richard Williamson – who should be exchanging his religious finery for something more restrictive, something in canvas with a stitched-together-sleeve motif perhaps?

Surely this bishop must be alone in asserting such nonsense? Nope! Not at all. Enter Father Floriano Abrahamowicz!

The pope, his bishops and priests should perhaps bear in mind, given their position, something that Charles Darwin said:

The highest possible stage in moral culture is when we recognize that we ought to control our thoughts.

And our tongues, might one add!!!
