What I was not expecting to hear announced on the radio as I drove home on Saturday afternoon was that Motherwell had held Rangers to a 1-1 draw at Fir Park. I figured that Motherwell would give Rangers a hard time but that Rangers would manage to sneak away with a 1-0 win to keep their title challenge on course.
So now Celtic are in the driving seat. They’re 3 points a head with a better goal difference even though Rangers have a game in hand. That game, against St. Mirren, is played tonight and the pressure is really on for the Light Blues. If they were to conspire to lose tonight then a draw for Celtic on Thursday night would be enough to clinch the title.
If Rangers win (or draw again) then there is still hope but they will be relying on Celtic completely screwing things up against Dundee United on Thursday. I can’t see Celtic doing that, I mean when was the last time Celtic threw away the league title on the last day? Mmm, that would have been Sunday, 22nd May, 2005!
I’m not about to start counting chickens just yet.
