I’m also interested to note that some folk played golf yesterday (Sunday) here on Lewis and that the Stornoway Golf Club are to meet with a view to consider appealing against the Stornoway Trust’s decision to maintain their ban on Sunday golfing.
You’ll be surprised to hear that I fully support the golf club’s wish to allow play on Sunday. Not out of devilment but because it is a matter of freedom of choice. I used to play golf regularly but seldom have the time these days. If the course was open here on Sundays (as many courses are elsewhere) then I would have more opportunity to play. There would also be more opportunity for tourists to play and to contribute to the local economy.
In fact, here’s a neat scenario. You travel to Stornoway on Friday evening from the mainland, play golf on Saturday and Sunday before travelling back to the mainland on Sunday evening on the newly introduced Sunday ferry.
