Despite the fact that Barcelona are very much in form and awash with football talent, it was a case of so near and yet so far at Celtic Park tonight.
As I listened in on the radio I couldn’t quite believe it when Celtic took the lead not once but twice. From the commentary I also couldn’t believe how fortunate Barcelona were over both their equalising goals. Messi can’t have known much about the first and I guess Henry just couldn’t believe his luck – though his finish sounds like something right out of the top drawer.
In the end though, Barcelona were just too much for Celtic and they went in deserving winners after a classic game – I’ll work up the nerve to watch the highlights later. And that 3-2 result in favour of Barcelona most likely puts the tin lid on Celtic’s Champion’s League participation for this season. They could stage a comeback in the Camp Nou but their seeming inability to win away from home in Europe would suggest not. However I can’t think of a better place for them to put that ghost to rest.
Stranger things have happened. Apparently.
