I guess we’re in for a long drawn out affair now that Saddam has finally appeared in court to be tried for his crimes. However, I find it odd that he refuses to recognize the authority of the court in which he is being tried yet still enters a plea of “not guilty”.
Sounds to me like the big bad boy ain’t so keen on standing up and being counted now that he’s been called to account. If he’s as innocent as he claims, why hide behind obstinate words and “the mercy of God, the most powerful” (see Opening salvoes of Saddam trial)?
Maybe they should just give him his belt and tie back?
