I have just finished reading Big Bang by Simon Singh, a very interesting read about the history of the Big Bang and the science behind it. In the book, the Anthropic Principle is mentioned. The gist of this being that any theory describing the Universe must be consistent with our existence within the Universe. Some seem to apply this principle to imply that the Universe is the way it is because we are here and that the Universe was created with us in mind. Surely it makes more sense to state that we are here because of the way in which the Universe has evolved and are a product of that evolution…?
There is a good starting point for finding out more about this prinicple on the Wikipedia, a very uselful online dictionary.
And visit Simon Singh’s website for more info about Big Bang and other books he has written (all of which are well worth a read!).
