Burning Issues

It would seem the wind farm debate is heating up…

On Sunday, the Grampian tv news carried a story about an effigy of a wind turbine being burned on the Isle of Lewis. This struck me as a rather extreme method of protest.

However, what especially alarmed me was that the preceding Gaelic programme discussed how the Ku Klux Klan – who had a propensity for burning another kind of effigy – reportedly had many formative members whose ancestry can be traced back to the West of Scotland. Am I the only one who sees a disturbing parallel here?
