Qtrax may, or may not, be a free music service to keep an eye on. They’re setting up an advertising funded service, similar to we7, where the presence of advertising allows us punters to download free music files using a P2P network.
Their interface is based on Songbird (still in development but definitely worth watching) and combines the whole searching/downloading/cataloguing/playing process into one interface. All very nice, but the service seems pretty slow and at the moment whilst there’s a lot of stuff listed most of the stuff I looked at isn’t yet available for download – though that just may be down to my musical taste and the fact that it’s still a beta service..
Qtrax claim to be forging deals with the big four music publishers that will allow lots of musical content to be legally available soon.
I’m a bit sceptical of the whole thing but will keep watching nevertheless.
