For Whom The Bell Tolls

This must surely be the final nail in the coffin of DRM protection. And it’s about time too. If you buy music, you should be able to listen to it wherever and using whatever you want. If you want to burn your digital music to a separate CD for your hi-fi, car, portable CD player (people do still use these instead of mp3 players, you know) then you should be able to. You shouldn’t have to keep count of how many times you’ve burned a copy, ever watchful of passing the limit that will force you to buy the songs again when your last CD copy is eaten by the dog.

If you want to listen to the same stuff on your iPod, Walkman, mobile phone, PDA, PC and laptop then you should be able to. Even if you did only purchase one copy of the original file.

Anyway, what I want to see now is Amazon’s digital music service being made available in the UK and more DRM free music on iTunes, 7digital, etc. Then we can have some real digital competition and some nice low prices for us consumers.
