Double Trouble

There are troubling things afoot in ye olde blogosphere (or should that be blogosfear?). First access to all of WordPress has been blocked in Turkey. And second PZ Myers is being threatened with legal action for expressing negative views about Stuart Pivar and his book “Lifecode“.

In both cases action has been taken because bloggers have been using their blogs to express their opinion, albeit negative, of two individuals who have placed themselves in the public domain – the aforementioned Stuart Pivar and creationist Adnan Oktar (also known as Haran Yahya). This is troubling because both would appear to be using their position/connections to subvert the rights of others to express their views. If these guys don’t want to experience criticism or negative opinions then they should neither write books nor place their views in the public domain. Especially as it seems that their views are widely held to be scientifically incorrect and that at least one of them is possibly guilty of plagiarism.

I hope that the block on WordPress will be removed by the Turkish authorities when they wake up and see the light of reason and I hope that the attempt to sue PZ Myers amounts to nothing. I also hope that the rest of the world will see the likes of Stuart Pivar and Adnan Oktar as they are – a couple of little boys who are in a strop because the other kids don’t like their toys. With any luck, someone will send them to sit on the naughty step!

It is absurd they don’t want any criticism about their books, all they want to praise it. I hope the government teaches the guy a lesson. Turkey on the other hand is very Islamic and tough, so it will be difficult to sway those guys. But if they are like that, they will have a hard time becoming a EU country.

    Hi cgull,

Thanks for leaving your comment. I hope you’re right and that Turkey’s stance on this and other issues makes it difficult for them to join the EU.

    Cheers,
    Alex
